Comfort for Carter

For families raising children with special needs, everyday logistics are rarely simple.

When Carter’s family needed an adaptive stroller, insurance said no. Although his power wheelchair was covered, a stroller was labeled “medically unnecessary.” But without a wheelchair-accessible van, the two simply aren’t interchangeable.

Carter still needed a safe, supportive place to sit for appointments, errands, and daily life. The hand-me-down stroller his family relied on was becoming uncomfortable, and replacing it was a substantial investment.

Then hope showed up.

Steve Buches, a fellow special needs dad and founder of Stephen’s Hulksters Angel Fund, saw the family’s post and reached out with an incredible offer: he would purchase the stroller Carter needed.

With help from Carter’s school to size and select the right fit, the foundation handled the rest. Just weeks later, a brand-new Leggero Reach arrived.

The impact was immediate.

Carter is now comfortable, fully supported, and able to sit criss-cross applesauce, his favorite position.

What may look like equipment to others is freedom to this family:

  • Freedom to attend appointments with less stress.

  • Freedom to run errands more easily.

  • Freedom to spend longer, happier days together.

Most of all, it’s the peace of mind that Carter can move through the world safely and comfortably.

Acts of kindness like this change everyday life. And they remind us that no family walks this journey alone.
